This set includes a hand painted Battle of Culloden set of chess pieces and a 50cm high quality wooden chess board in Ebony, Walnut or Teak.
Culloden is a village just outside Inverness in Scotland, 3 miles to the South in Drummossie Moor, the Battle of Culloden raged on the 16th of April 1746. The House of Stuart, led by the French supported Jacobites were attempting to regain the throne, but they were devastatingly crushed by the British Army under the direction of William Augustus, Prince William, Duke of Cumberland. After victory, all prisoners were dealt with mercilessly and Prince William is consequently referred to as "Butcher William" or "Butcher Cumberland".
